Satin bridesmaid dress for evening summer wedding?
I have been asked to be in a bridal party as a bridesmaid and have been given a color for the dress but not a style.
prom dress I found a dress I really like but the fabric is satin and am wondering if I can wear a satin (knee length) dress to a July evening wedding? I know the bride will let me wear whatever I want so I want to ask everyone else, will this look ok? Is this appropriate?
Is taffeta more comfortable for summer? Or is it pretty much the same? I will be in a hot/humid location so I'm changing my mind about the satin based on your responses.
Satin will absorb sweat and usually will show up with a dark spot. Satin looks pretty but if it is humid you will probably end up very uncomfortable. It also depends on the color of the satin and how noticable the sweat may be.Satin is fine, just be aware of the weight. Satin is a very formal, beautiful fabric that catches light nicely. Princess, Royal and Mystique satins have very different weights for different times of the year. Mystique satin is the most lightweight. Or, look for a crepe-back satin, this will be very lightweight and will flow and drape nicely. As for the person who said satin is unforgiving, if the style of the dress fits your body shape you won't have any issue with bulges or whatever.
school prom As for the taffeta, taffeta makes noise and is just as heavy as a Princess satin. It also doesn't reflect the light as well. However, it is acceptable. My mom's been making and altering wedding and formal gowns for about 40 years. I've been assisting her for almost 20.I think that sounds very appropriate, especially for an evening wedding. My only caution with satin is that it can be very warm, especially in July, but if you won't be out in the heat of the afternoon and there will be air conditioning, I'm sure you'll be comfortable & look great in it!satin is fine. it's a very rich formal fabric, there's nothing informal about satin. you should be more concerned with the style rather than the material. and you can't be sure the bride will let you wear 'whatever you want'- you should definitely give her the chance to approve of the dress before you buy it.Sounds fine to me. I think satin might not breathe well (the fabric) so just keep that in mind.
prom dress ukYou wouldn't want to have pit stains, so maybe wear extra deodorant and get dressed an hour to an hour and a half before, but yet not too early.Satin - is a tricky fabric and a No No for Summer.
It doesn't stretch - so it will wrinkle
It's too thick - no room to breath
If you sweat anywhere - you will get nasty stain that do not dry fast
Chiffon is your best bet!!!satin's very unforgiving unfortunately :S
if u have love handles or prone to sweating (especially since it's high summer) then maybe choose another fabric..... otherwise th design aspects of ur dress are great! Definitely, satin would be amazing for an evening wedding.chiffon or georgette would be better if it's outside but if inside it doesn't really matter. taffeta and satin will be about the same. That sounds lovely dear
go have fun , I really hope the weathers nice for you :)
